Dear BES Bobcats Families,
It has been a landmark week at our school as we reached the milestone of the 100th Day of School this past Thursday. Our first graders kept the momentum going today by celebrating the 101st Day of School with a delightful 101 Dalmatians theme. Both days were packed with engaging math and literacy activities designed to help students reflect on how much they’ve grown since the fall. The week of February 16-20 we will have spirit days. Please see the attached flyer. We are going with an Olympic theme this month. If it feels too cold to go outside tonight you can watch the Opening Ceremonies on television.
Welcome to the class of 2039
Please go to our website to register your incoming Kindergartener for the Class of 2039!!! Since you are already a BES family, you will head to the "BES Parent Portal" link on the right side of the page. If you have friends who have a child ready to BES for the first time, please share this information with them. We have the information out on our sign boards and we will post it on the Bow Community page. In May we will hold an Open House for incoming Kindergarten families in the evening.
Throughout this week and next, teachers are participating in grade-level data meetings to review winter assessment results from iReady and Acadience. These benchmarks are vital for tailoring our instruction to meet every child's needs. You will receive these assessment results, along with the half-year report card, on Tuesday, February 17.
It is great to be a New England fan this Sunday, let’s Go Patriots!
Bundle up and enjoy the weekend!

Finally, we have two wonderful after-school groups organizing evening activities for our community. On Tuesday, February 17, our Math Club will host a Family Math Night for grades K-2, where club members will lead our youngest students in a variety of math games. Looking ahead to March, our Student Universal group is sponsoring a 📚 Book Swap. Please be sure to review the attached flyers for more information on Math Night and to see the specific book levels we are looking to collect for the swap. We look forward to seeing you there!
Dear BES Bobcat Families,
While I am not quite ready to predict what the groundhog will see this coming Monday, I have high confidence that we will not have any weather issues impeding our school day. I want to extend a sincere thank you to all of our families and caregivers for your incredible support during our recent remote learning day; we saw an impressive 90% participation rate among our students. As we navigate the school grounds this week, please continue to use extra care during drop-off and pick-up. We have quite a bit of snow piled up, which has created a few logistical challenges, and our staff on duty truly appreciate the consideration you've shown to keep everyone safe.
Excitement is building for our upcoming ❄️ Winter Wellness Day 🎿 on Wednesday, February 18! During our Bobcat Block this week, our older students were busy preparing by creating bobsleds and snowballs for the festivities. The day will feature an Olympic theme with mixed-age teams representing different countries as they compete for medals in variations of snowball cornhole, curling, "ice" hockey, and bobsled races. We owe a huge thank you to Beth Corkum, Director of MTSS, for coordinating this event, and we are thrilled to have BMS students returning to run the activities. To make the day a success, we are looking for parent volunteers to assist with recess. Since we will have half the school outside at once, Mrs. Young and I would love to have a few more adults join us; please check the sign-up link if you are available to help.

Dear BES Bobcat Families
It was wonderful to have five complete days of school this week! There is a distinct rhythm to the building when we have a full week together, and the "January confidence" radiating from our students is truly a pleasure to see.
While walking through the halls of BES this week, I was energized by the high level of engagement in every classroom. Our students are finding their voices—not just verbally, but through their written work as well. From collaborative math corner activities to the 3rd graders diving deep into their new Tall Tales unit, the conversations I overheard were thoughtful and inspiring.
We have officially kicked off our mid-year iReady assessments. To ensure students can perform their best without feeling overwhelmed, we break these sessions up over several days for both Reading and Math. Results from these assessments, combined with the first report cards of the year, will be sent home on Tuesday, February 17.
We are gearing up for Winter Wellness Day on February 18, and our theme this year is the Olympics! During the week of January 26, students will be "building things" to support our winter games during Bobcat Block. If we can collect enough large cardboard, we plan to build a fleet of cardboard bobsleds!

Audio and Visual Recording consent form. We have received replies for 70% of the students. Please complete in the coming week. Thank you.
As Marcy Kelley, Superintendent, said in her message before Christmas, this general consent form follows recent guidance from the New Hampshire Department of Education that clarified parental consent requirements for audio and video recordings under the Parental Bill of Rights. Collecting this consent helps us continue normal instructional and school-related activities in compliance with state law. Please do one form for each child. The form has drop down options for grade level and teacher. This helps us to organize our permissions as we collect them for all 533 students.
Please read and complete this form. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Dear BES Bobcat Families,
It has been a wonderful first week back from vacation! As we move into our second month of winter, we are enjoying the fresh air daily. However, our playground conditions are quite varied right now, and we want to ensure every student is prepared for a fun and comfortable recess.
To make the most of our outdoor time, please keep the following guidelines in mind regarding winter attire:
We see a variety of methods for getting snow gear to school—wearing it, stuffing it into backpacks, or using separate snow bags. All children are responsible for carrying their own belongings. We have noticed that when a snow bag is disproportionately large compared to the child, it becomes a physical burden for them to manage. Please help your child choose a bag size that is easy for them to carry independently.
Our bus students have mastered this transition beautifully, and we want to help everyone feel just as successful!
A very pleasant winter reminder that school begins at 8:00. There is a very limited line from 7:40 -7:45. We are once again coming in late. This affects many learners as the staff outside have learners waiting on the inside. Thank you.
Have a lovely weekend!
Lori

The event is open to wind, brass, and string players of all ages who have at least one year of experience on their instrument and are able to read music.

Happy New Year!
I hope that everyone was able to enjoy the holidays with family and friends. If you are traveling may you have the good fortune to avoid the weather challenges that have been occurring. Yesterday when I lost power twice during the storm I decided it might be time to research options for a generator.
I will send this form out again in the Friday newsletter when we return but thought it would be good to get a head start on collecting the permissions. As Marcy Kelley, Superintendent, said in her message before Christmas, this general consent form follows recent guidance from the New Hampshire Department of Education that clarified parental consent requirements for audio and video recordings under the Parental Bill of Rights.
