Dear BES Bobcat Families
It was wonderful to have five complete days of school this week! There is a distinct rhythm to the building when we have a full week together, and the "January confidence" radiating from our students is truly a pleasure to see.
While walking through the halls of BES this week, I was energized by the high level of engagement in every classroom. Our students are finding their voices—not just verbally, but through their written work as well. From collaborative math corner activities to the 3rd graders diving deep into their new Tall Tales unit, the conversations I overheard were thoughtful and inspiring.
We have officially kicked off our mid-year iReady assessments. To ensure students can perform their best without feeling overwhelmed, we break these sessions up over several days for both Reading and Math. Results from these assessments, combined with the first report cards of the year, will be sent home on Tuesday, February 17.
We are gearing up for Winter Wellness Day on February 18, and our theme this year is the Olympics! During the week of January 26, students will be "building things" to support our winter games during Bobcat Block. If we can collect enough large cardboard, we plan to build a fleet of cardboard bobsleds!

Audio and Visual Recording consent form. We have received replies for 70% of the students. Please complete in the coming week. Thank you.
As Marcy Kelley, Superintendent, said in her message before Christmas, this general consent form follows recent guidance from the New Hampshire Department of Education that clarified parental consent requirements for audio and video recordings under the Parental Bill of Rights. Collecting this consent helps us continue normal instructional and school-related activities in compliance with state law. Please do one form for each child. The form has drop down options for grade level and teacher. This helps us to organize our permissions as we collect them for all 533 students.
Please read and complete this form. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Dear BES Bobcat Families,
It has been a wonderful first week back from vacation! As we move into our second month of winter, we are enjoying the fresh air daily. However, our playground conditions are quite varied right now, and we want to ensure every student is prepared for a fun and comfortable recess.
To make the most of our outdoor time, please keep the following guidelines in mind regarding winter attire:
We see a variety of methods for getting snow gear to school—wearing it, stuffing it into backpacks, or using separate snow bags. All children are responsible for carrying their own belongings. We have noticed that when a snow bag is disproportionately large compared to the child, it becomes a physical burden for them to manage. Please help your child choose a bag size that is easy for them to carry independently.
Our bus students have mastered this transition beautifully, and we want to help everyone feel just as successful!
A very pleasant winter reminder that school begins at 8:00. There is a very limited line from 7:40 -7:45. We are once again coming in late. This affects many learners as the staff outside have learners waiting on the inside. Thank you.
Have a lovely weekend!

Concord Community Music School is hosting a free “Try an Ensemble” event on Saturday, January 10, from 4:00–6:00 pm, designed to introduce musicians to our chamber ensemble program. The event is open to wind, brass, and string players of all ages who have at least one year of experience on their instrument and are able to read music.
The afternoon will begin with short performances by CCMS faculty, followed by breakout sessions where participants can experience playing in small ensembles. It’s a relaxed, supportive way for students to explore ensemble music-making and connect with other musicians.
A flyer is attached, and additional details are available here:
Happy New Year!
I hope that everyone was able to enjoy the holidays with family and friends. If you are traveling may you have the good fortune to avoid the weather challenges that have been occurring. Yesterday when I lost power twice during the storm I decided it might be time to research options for a generator.
I will send this form out again in the Friday newsletter when we return but thought it would be good to get a head start on collecting the permissions. As Marcy Kelley, Superintendent, said in her message before Christmas, this general consent form follows recent guidance from the New Hampshire Department of Education that clarified parental consent requirements for audio and video recordings under the Parental Bill of Rights. Enjoy the rest of the break!

Dear BES Bobcat Families,
Please see the attached photos from today. You have to love a day when most people were in PJ’s and brought a stuffie to school! A huge thank you to Victoria Kephart for organizing our annual Sing Along! Take a look at some pictures from our Sing Along and our Gingerbread Village.
When we return in January I am looking for any large cardboard (such as from flatscreens) you may acquire over the break from your shopping and gift giving. You can deliver them to the school and we will store them until we are ready. We have a project for Bobcat Block in late January to go along with our Winter Olympics theme in February.
The BES staff wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We will see everyone on Monday, January 5.
Lori
Dear BES Bobcats.
It has been a truly festive and joy-filled week here at BES. Our youngest students recently welcomed their families into the classrooms for our traditional ornament-making projects, and it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and creative designs. Throughout the week, our cafeteria has served as a gathering place for storytelling, where students have enjoyed hearing about the beautiful traditions of both Hanukkah and Christmas. We were also thrilled to finally welcome Kevin Skarupa for his annual visit to the 3rd grade. After several weather-related postponements, he was able to share his expertise in meteorology with our students as they wrap up their weather unit.
Looking ahead to the coming days, the excitement continues to build. Our halls are currently filled with charming gingerbread homes and people in anticipation of Monday, when our Kindergarten students will set off on their annual Gingerbread Hunt. This Sunday also marks the Winter Solstice; while it is the shortest day of the year, we look forward to the fact that we will begin adding a little bit of light back to each day thereafter. Finally, on Tuesday, we will gather for our annual school-wide Sing-Along before departing for the holiday break. Ms. Kephart has updated the song selection this year, and we are all excited to experience this new twist on one of our favorite BES traditions. We wish all of our families a warm and happy holiday season!
Have a festive weekend!
Lori

Dear BES Bobcat Families,
I want to share some of the incredible holiday spirit that has filled the school this week! Our students have been busy creating amazing decorations during our monthly Bobcat Block.
Our Bobcat Block time in the cafeteria was a flurry of activity, with students working together in groups of 8-10 to complete their festive projects:
It is busy and fun when Bobcat Block meets one grade level at a time in the cafeteria, and we are so proud of how well our students worked together on these projects! We now have 12 beautiful gingerbread houses spread out and brightening the hallways of the school.
We are down to our final seven days of school before the winter break!
We love celebrating with learning activities at this time of year. Please be sure to see the fun Spirit Days that our student Universal Team has created for us to enjoy! There is so much excitement for everyone. You might have heard the staff surprised the students by acknowledging the 67th day of school on Tuesday. We all had fun with that!
Happy Holidays!

Dear BES Bocat Families,
We want to extend a huge thank you to all our families for your incredible support during our first remote learning day.
In the month of December, the school organizes several traditional activities that involve families and/or support for various celebrations.
Everyone did a wonderful job transitioning back into school on Wednesday!
One more friendly reminder regarding our morning schedule:
We have observed that the car drop-off line often runs late, sometimes as late as 8:10 AM or 8:15 AM. Today, we had a long double line forming into the parking lot right at 8:00 AM. We kindly ask that you adjust your routine to get in the car drop-off line earlier, especially when the line is very empty. This ensures your child is in their classroom and ready for instruction when it officially starts. We appreciate your support in maximizing learning time! We have been doing really well getting in on time this year.
